Facebook rolls out 'new' photo-viewer

Did you checked the photo-viewer on facebook today? The latest change in the Facebook photo viewer seems to be inspired by that in Google+. Quite like the Google+ photo viewer the interaction panel is to the right, instead of its previous position below the image.

The notable change in the new Facebook photo viewer is that users no longer need to scroll down to comment on the photo. Comments (and ads) have been pushed to a right panel next to the photo. The new viewer also lets users see larger images. The image size displayed depends both on the dimensions of the original image and the resolution of the user's computer screen.

Quite like the old Facebook photo viewer users can move out of the theatre interface to the original way of viewing photos by simply reloading the page.

The option to download a particular image (or to report the image) has been moved to underneath the gear icon on the top right of the viewing window.

How Wajam Works?

On Facebook, Wajam has access to content that you and your friends have shared. This includes any links from Facebook to the open web, as well as content that originated outside of Facebook, such as videos and images you have uploaded.

Wajam does not share content from friends of your friends, as that is against Facebook’s privacy settings. However, you should know that when you Like content on the open web, you have friended that site, and Wajam therefore considers any content from it to be highly relevant.

Unlike Facebook, Twitter is a public site. So, Wajam delivers results from your friends – and friends of friends, what you know of as your followers.

With growing popularity of facebook, it has become a prime platform for spammers and hackers to spread malicious and infected links. Last couple of days, I got two similar links and unknowingly many more of us are are getting these unwanted status posts.

Clicking on the link will spam your friends wall with the link with your name and then it will send you to the page to install an extension.

After you install an extension in Chrome (or if you are using Firefox then it will ask you to install some plugin for the video), in the end, the page might simply get refreshed or a lame video might be played leading you to be annoyed that the intended video was not a real one.

First of all, you should NOT click on this sort of links or videos instead mark them as spam. In case you still have clicked any such link earlier, or even if not, make sure you follow these steps below :

How to stop/remove these spams

For Firefox Users:

Step 1: The first step should be to open browser > Click on Options > Select Addons Or Press Ctrl+Shift+A
Step 2: Click Remove button beside Youtube Extension or anything like it
Step 3: Reopen the browser after doing this

For Chrome Users:

Step 1: Open Browser > Click on Spanner Icon (settings) > Tools > Extensions
Step 2: Click on Remove button beside Extension Youtube

Leaving behind anti-corruption Anna Hazare, Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif has emerged as the most searched person online on Google India.

Top Celebrities: According to Zeitgeist 2011, Google’s annual list that highlights 'popular and fastest rising search queries from India in 2011', Katrina and Anna were followed by Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra on the 3rd, 6th, 8th and 10th positions, respectively, reinforcing the popularity of Bollywood among Indian netizens.
However, the anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare had emerged as top newsmaker this year 2011 on search engine Yahoo India.

Top Searched Movies: Bodyguard was the most searched movie in the country followed by Ra.One which became more known for its marketing initiatives rather than the movie itself. Harry Potter and Delhi Belly were placed on the 3rd and 4th spots respectively.

One in six employees use social media to find their current job, up from one in nine in 2010;
Nearly 90 percent of job seekers have a social media profile;

In another survey here, when asked how important it is to an individual to having an account on each of those social media platforms, LinkedIn was voted as the platform of choice by 59 percent of those active social networking users. Twitter came in second at 58 percent, YouTube came in third at 55 percent, followed by Facebook at 53 percent.

Facebook Phone 'Buffy' is coming in 2013

Stats: Is Facebook Moving Towards Saturation ?

Few days ago, a story banged around the news-o-sphere saying that the number of Facebook users in the US had shrunk in May. This set off much hand-wringing about how Facebook was starting to collapse.

The story that Facebook's users dropped in May originated here. The report was based on data that Facebook produces for its advertisers. This data, says a source at Facebook, does not include mobile usage. The source believes that this is one reason why the data understated Facebook's US usage.

(Facebook's mobile usage increases significantly in the summer, the source says, when kids leave school).

Three third-party measurement services agreed on United States Facebook traffic in May, at least directionally. They each showed the company making a net gain in monthly unique visitors to help make up for what has been a slower year by each of their accounts. Beyond this initial point of agreement, the data diverges, as you can see in the chart below — that is, except for a few main points.

Facebook is still posting overall user gains in the US if you look past month-to-month changes, but it is doing so more slowly than it has in previous years as it nears saturation in the market.

Nielsen published monthly numbers yesterday showing that Facebook added 6.28 million monthly unique visitors in May to reach 140.3 million, following a loss of 1.64 million in April, a gain of 4.92 million March, and a loss of 4.84 million in February.

Compete showed growth of 4.75 million unique visitors in May for a total of 142.7 million unique visitors, following a loss of 2.82 million in April, a gain of 6.66 million in March, and a gain of 351,000 in February.

ComScore, meanwhile, had indicated net growth of 3.16 million to 157.2 million uniques, following a gain of 1.10 million in April, another gain of 2.30 million in March, and a loss of 2.34 million in February.

Today Facebook is the 4th largest U.S. web property in audience size with 157.2 million visitors in May, representing its all-time high and a gain of 3.2 million visitors vs. the previous month. While other reports have been circulating that Facebook witnessed a pronounced user decline this month, comScore data shows quite a different story. Given that Facebook now reaches 73% of the total U.S. Internet population each month, one thing we should anticipate is that the site’s audience cannot grow forever.

One impressive stat to note is that Facebook’s average U.S. visitor engagement has grown from 4.6 hours to 6.3 hours per month over the past year, so it appears to be succeeding in that regard.

I really appreciate your friendship but if some day accidentally something happens to your profile or anything the first target will the same friend..which in turn can affect your so-close friendship as well. Hence, for no other reason, I urge you that some things are to be kept very-personal as well. In case you still have any doubts let me know..by either means and I can elaborate more instances to make you understand the reasons behind this.

Next thing I need to talk about is facebook security. This is really very important to understand for each person esp. girls again, who has a facebook account. To start up with, I request you to ONLY use secured version to login into facebook Click here. This is a secured page by facebook to login into. It uses 'https' protocol that stands for Secured Hypertext Transfer Protocol and do you know facebook is paying for this to allow their readers to have a safe login.

Then in facebook, I wish to describe the major portion for which nearly each one us knows facebook i.e. facebook applications. I don't need to describe I suppose what are these and straight coming down to the theme. When you click to say, 'Try this application' or something similar, you are directed to a dialog box as,

Take some time reading this out, it says...'The person who made this application can access your private details. He can post 'anything' on my wall and also access posts in my NewsFeed. The moment you allow this 'Token', these rights by default goes to him for Lifetime until you revoke the rights. Is this what you wanted...?????

Now, the question arises than what is the solution. You need to use facebook applications and you need to click on Allow to do so. Yes, we have a solution. Just read the last line in the previous paragraph once again....Okay then, by default you are allowing the token for lifetime, now if you come to know how to revoke the token, then the developer can no longer access your details. So it that sounding good...

Here's what you need to do to revoke the privileges,

1) In right-hand top-most corner, click on Account-> Privacy Settings

2) See 'Apps and Websites' in the lower-left corner is written, click on 'Edit your settings'

3) In the above screenshot, as you can see the application I have authorized - one of which is'My Best Status 2010'. Similarly in your facebook settings you will see the whole list of applications that can access your profile-information.

Now, the task is pretty clear, I need to revoke the privileges of 'My Best Status 2010' application. Here's what you need to do,

Clicking on the yellow-highlighted edit button will take you to something similar to,

4) Finally, everything is before your eyes, CONTROL the privileges of the desired application accordingly.

This was just Application Privacy that I depicted. Similarly, go through the screenshot after Step 1 and CHANGE all the privacy settings either to your friends or to you only.

Remember, the more you explore, the better you learn. So, this is just a basic guide, try getting aware of how you can control EACH and EVERY information (esp. your photographs) you publishes in your profile. It is very very important before you make use of technology, it is better to understand the basic risks behind it. In case you still find difficulty, consult either me or some security expert but do not avoid this at any cost.

How To Access Blocked Sites

Sometimes few sites may be blocked in schools, colleges or offices. But there are ways we may access them. I too came up with a similar situation and hereby publishes you the solution.

Access the site using IP Address:

Each website on the internet is identified by its IP Address. Since the memorization of the long IP addresses was never easy for so may sites, the naming convention of URLs was adopted. So we can access any website by using its IP address also.

Follow the steps below:

1. Go to your command prompt and type ping www.facebook.com

2. Copy the IP address of the site server (as highlighted in red rectangle above) in the browser and press Enter. The site should open up now if the firewall has blocked the site by URLs.

Access the site using Proxy Servers:

Go to Blocked Site Access and type the name of site to be unblocked as shown below.

Pressing the "Go" Button should take you to the site.

This post is for all those who are not making their online presence on social-networking websites like linkedin or facebook. This is really important. Here's a report I found today to explain you the importance of making your online presence.

According to a new survey from the Society for Human Resource Management, 56 percent of employers are using social networking sites to find and evaluate job candidates. Another 20 percent plan to do so soon.

What's the attraction?

"Social networking websites allow an employer the opportunity to gather initial information about a job candidate before a single word has been exchanged", the report says.

SHRM, the world’s largest association of hiring managers, found that 95 percent of job recruiters who use social networking sites look at LinkedIn to prospect for candidates.

Any job hunter, any worker who might some day consider changing jobs, needs a LinkedIn profile. Your profile should give a clear picture of your talents, your experience and your position. And it should include some recommendations from bosses, colleagues, clients and customers — the kind of references that corporate policies sometimes prohibit them from sharing.

LinkedIn is most important from the point of view of hirers but there are yet other sites as well. Among hirers who use social media, the survey found that 58 percent hunt for candidates on Facebook; 42 percent check Twitter, and 23 percent look at professional association or industry-specific networking sites.

Employers like the insight they get from social media. A top benefit is that they find workers who aren’t looking for a job but may be perfect fits for their needs. Another plus for hirers is that trolling social networks is a cheap way to recruit, especially those "passive" candidates who aren’t responding to job postings.

The survey said social network recruiting is most useful for mid-level management and non-managerial, salaried professionals.
