Beware of spams around on facebook !

With growing popularity of facebook, it has become a prime platform for spammers and hackers to spread malicious and infected links. Last couple of days, I got two similar links and unknowingly many more of us are are getting these unwanted status posts.

Clicking on the link will spam your friends wall with the link with your name and then it will send you to the page to install an extension.

After you install an extension in Chrome (or if you are using Firefox then it will ask you to install some plugin for the video), in the end, the page might simply get refreshed or a lame video might be played leading you to be annoyed that the intended video was not a real one.

First of all, you should NOT click on this sort of links or videos instead mark them as spam. In case you still have clicked any such link earlier, or even if not, make sure you follow these steps below :

How to stop/remove these spams

For Firefox Users:

Step 1: The first step should be to open browser > Click on Options > Select Addons Or Press Ctrl+Shift+A
Step 2: Click Remove button beside Youtube Extension or anything like it
Step 3: Reopen the browser after doing this

For Chrome Users:

Step 1: Open Browser > Click on Spanner Icon (settings) > Tools > Extensions
Step 2: Click on Remove button beside Extension Youtube

Social Media transforms the job search

Few days before we have an interesting article here talking about, if facebook, twitter and linkedin really get you a job? The article noted how now-a-days, a college degree and even years of experience do not necessarily translate into a good job. This is especially true for young professionals entering the work force for the first time in many cases.

Social media is now becoming the premier landscape for job searching and hiring by recruiters. Based on a recent survey by Jobvite, on some interesting trends regarding social media use for job searches, some of the more interesting findings are:
  • One in six employees use social media to find their current job, up from one in nine in 2010;
  • Nearly 90 percent of job seekers have a social media profile;
  • 54 percent of all job seekers use Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn to find jobs;
  • 50 percent of job seekers have used Facebook, 26 percent used LinkedIn and 25 percent used Twitter to look for a job in the past 12 months;
  • 18.4 million Americans say they found their current jobs through Facebook, along with 10.2 million through LinkedIn and 8 million through Twitter.
In another survey here, when asked how important it is to an individual to having an account on each of those social media platforms, LinkedIn was voted as the platform of choice by 59 percent of those active social networking users. Twitter came in second at 58 percent, YouTube came in third at 55 percent, followed by Facebook at 53 percent.

Brian Phifer - CEO of Phifer & Co. - a full-service recruitment agency with a total offering that delivers best-in-class talent management and recruiting services, says that the best advice he could provide for job seekers utilizing social media is to make sure that all of your social media presence is in sync and professional. Now-a-days everyone Googles everyone, so it is important to make sure that an individual’s message and presentation is structured the same across all social media.

Facebook Phone 'Buffy' is coming in 2013

After incredible success in Social networking, facebook is leaping into mobile market with its very first phone named 'Buffy'- getting ready to launch around 2013. The new phone is code-named 'Buffy' after the television show about a vampire slayer. The phone will be based on a modified version of Android, which has been tweaked by facebook.

AllThingsD also said that Facebook had also considered Samsung to make the device, but went with HTC instead. HTC has made at least two phones already with dedicated Facebook buttons. The Salsa and ChaCha, which have Facebook buttons, were introduced earlier this year. There are other phone manufacturers that have put Facebook buttons on their phones, including INQ Mobile and Motorola.

"Buffy" Facebook phone will be different from these other others devices, because it won't just provide access to Facebook. Instead, it will have the social networking technology developed by the company integrated into the device. Other platforms have done a bit of this already. For example, Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system has Facebook and Twitter integrated into the OS so that contacts are shared across multiple applications on the phone. And previously, Facebook has worked with Research in Motion to integrate Facebook into its BlackBerry devices. It also worked closely with Palm.

There's no question that mobile is an important element of Facebook's strategy for the future and rumours for facebook phone might appear soon had emerged an year before too. If it chooses to build its own "Facebook phone", the company faces stiff competition in the smartphone market from players such as Apple's iPhone and Google's Android platform. Each of these platforms also support Facebook apps, so again its unclear what Facebook will do with the integration of its technology into a phone to make it a truly different experience...
